Hundreds of elephants die mysteriously in Botswana’s Okavango Delta | DW News

Hundreds of elephants have died mysteriously in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. 275 elephant carcasses have been verified and 356 elephants are reported dead in the northern part of Botswana. Poaching has been ruled out as a possible cause as the tusks of deceased elephants were still intact. Witnesses say some elephants were seen walking in circles and showed signs of neurological impairment. The first cluster of deaths was first reported in early May. Conservationists have criticized government delays in looking into the problem. Samples have now been collected for analysis.
