Live updates: President Trump tests positive for COVID-19

NBC NEWS – President Trump and first lady Melania Trump have tested positive for coronavirus, the president said early Friday morning.

Dr. Sean Conley, White House physician, said both the president and first lady are well and isolating in the White House.

Lawmakers from both parties sent “get well soon” wishes, as did many foreign leaders.

5 p.m.:

Trump received an 8-gram dose of Regeneron’s polyclonal antibody cocktail as part of his treatment, according to a letter from Dr. Sean P. Conley, the Physician to the President.

He was also given zinc, vitamin D, famotidine, melatonin and asprin.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is calling for a testing and contact tracing program for Capitol Hill. Schumer accused the White House of putting the Senate and their staffers at risk for the virus, reported NBC.

“This episode demonstrates that the Senate needs a testing and contact tracing program for Senators, staff, and all who work in the Capitol complex,” he said in a statement. “We simply cannot allow the administration’s cavalier attitude to adversely affect this branch of government.”

Schumer said careful contact tracing is necessary for everyone who may have been exposed by the president, first lady, aide Hope Hicks, or their contacts.

“It is imperative that all results be made public in order to contain a possible outbreak and so we can determine the need for Senators and staff to quarantine or self-isolate,” Schumer said in the statement.

11:57 a.m.:

Attorney General William Barr has tested negative for COVID-19 after being with the president at the White House on Saturday at a reception for Judge Amy Coney Barrett, Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court.

According to NBC News, he was not experiencing symptoms but tested out of an abundance of caution.

11:55 a.m.:

Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee has tested positive for coronavirus. In a statement posted to his Twitter account, the senator said, “Unlike the test I took just a few days ago while visiting the White House, yesterday’s test came back positive.”

Senator Lee said he will remain isolated for the next 10 days.

“I have spoken with Leader McConnell and Chairman Graham and assured them I will be back to work in time to join my Judiciary Committee colleagues in advancing the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett in the Committee and then to the fill Senate.”

11:09 a.m.:

First lady Melania Trump tweets that she is feeling good and experiencing mild symptoms.

10:00 a.m.:

Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett tests negative for COVID-19, according to NBC News.

“Judge Barrett was with the President last on Saturday when she was nominated,” Deere said. “Judge Barrett is tested daily for COVID-19—she has tested negative.”

He added, “She is following CDC guidance and best practices, including social distancing, wearing face coverings, and frequently washes hands.”

9:57 a.m.:

Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, according to an RNC spokesperson.

“After a member of her family tested positive for COVID-19, the Chairwoman was tested for the virus,” an RNC spokesperson said in a statement on Friday. “On Wednesday afternoon, she got confirmation she was COVID-19 positive. She has been at her home in Michigan since last Saturday.”

9:40 a.m.:

Vice President Mike Pence and second lady Karen Pence both tested negative for coronavirus. Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner and Barron Trump tested negative for the virus as well, reported CNN.

9:30 a.m.:

Dow takes a tumble after President Trump tests positive for coronavirus

U.S. stocks fell more than 300 points after President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump announced their positive coronavirus test results.

The S&P 500 fell 1.4 percent, while the Nasdaq Composite declined 1.8 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 340 points or 1.2 percent.

8:54 a.m.:

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin tested negative for COVID-19 on Friday morning, according to Monica Crowley, a Treasury Department spokesperson.

Secretary Mnuchin will continue to be tested daily, said Crowley.

8:54 a.m.:

Attorney General William Barr will get tested for COVID-19 out of an abundance of caution, said a Justice Department spokesperson.

Barr was last with the president on Saturday at the reception announcing Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court nomination.
